Eligibility

Most people qualify for Original Medicare for one of the three reasons

  • They are 65 years of age or older
  • They have a covered disability
  • They have End Stage Renal Disease

Enrollment Period

If you qualify because of age, your enrollment period begins 7 months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and 3 months after your 65th birthday. Not signing up for Medicare within this window might cause you late penalties for as long as you are covered.
